For several months, artists and record labels have been concerned about the proliferation of AI-generated tracks. Entire songs, sometimes indistinguishable from human creations, are flooding playlists, riding trends, and even benefiting from recommendation algorithms. This technological pressure has pushed Spotify to break its silence.
Measures Against AI Abuse
The platform has just announced a series of concrete measures to regulate the use of AI in music streamed on its service. It's no longer just about monitoring or alerting, but about taking firm action on several fronts. First, AI-generated content must now be explicitly identified by their creators or distributors. In case of omission or doubt, Spotify reserves the right to remove them, as has already happened with thousands of tracks.
Furthermore, artificially generated content will no longer be promoted in personalized recommendations, such as the "Discover Weekly" or "Radar" playlists. This is a way to protect the visibility of human artists, while avoiding the manipulation of algorithms by mass-produced automated content.
Finally, Spotify announced a stricter policy on metadata transparency, requiring distribution platforms and producers to clearly declare the use of artificial intelligence in the music creation process. This measure is part of a dynamic of ecosystem accountability.
This is not the first time a streaming player has taken a stand on this hot topic. Last June, Deezer had already introduced a system for detecting synthetic voices and AI-generated content, coupled with a clear intent to limit their exposure. Spotify is following suit, with more visible means and an active reporting policy.
The message is clear: the battle over AI-generated music has begun. Between technological innovation and the defense of artists, platforms must now choose their side. By taking a public stance, Spotify shows it does not wish to become a mere showcase for content without author or identity.
The debate is just beginning.
