With the launch of its brand-new Email Assistant, Perplexity takes a decisive step in its strategy: moving from pure AI research to becoming part of its users' daily lives. Following Comet, this new product confirms a clear ambition: to directly compete with Microsoft and Google... and become an essential player in the professional world.

Unveiled at the end of September 2025, Perplexity Email Assistant is an advanced feature integrated into the Perplexity Pro Max offering, the premium subscription at $200/month.

This is not just a simple plugin or complementary tool, but a dedicated intelligent agent for email management, currently compatible with Gmail and Outlook.

In other words: an autonomous AI assistant that reads, understands, sorts, summarizes, prioritizes, and writes for you, in your own style. Once connected to your email, the assistant acts as a true digital right-hand.

What specific features does it offer?

Perplexity Email Assistant does more than just summarize your emails. It offers a proactive approach, with a series of advanced features:

  • Intelligent organization: It sorts messages according to custom labels (“urgent”, “to handle”, “resolved”, etc.), automatically classifies conversations, and archives what is resolved.
  • Automatically generated responses: It provides draft responses written in your usual tone, with the right information, ready to be approved with a click.
  • Appointment scheduling: Integrated with your calendar, it can suggest slots for a meeting and send an invitation automatically.
  • Task prioritization: It responds to commands like “show me the three most urgent messages of the day” or “summarize all emails concerning file X”.
  • Progressive learning: The more you use it, the more it adapts to your preferences, writing habits, and favorite recipients.

In other words, it doesn't just assist you: it acts for you, while remaining under your supervision.

After Comet, another attack on Microsoft and Google's turf?

With Comet, launched at the beginning of 2024, Perplexity had already moved away from being just a response engine to offering a contextual, personalized, continuous search experience. Comet accompanies the user throughout their searches like a personal “agent”, memorizing their intentions, adjusting results, and suggesting paths.

With the Email Assistant, the company moves to a new stage: acting on your work tools, and not just on search. It's a direct attack on the established giants:

  • Google, which integrates Gemini into Gmail and Calendar.
  • Microsoft, with its Copilot integrated into Outlook, Teams, and the entire 365 suite.

But Perplexity adopts a different strategy:

  • Where Microsoft & Google strengthen their native tools, Perplexity positions itself as a universal and personalized overlay, independent of the software suite.
  • Where Copilot and Gemini remain “conversational”, Perplexity aims for semi-autonomous agents.

Perplexity, a future key player for businesses?

While the tool is currently reserved for a tech-savvy elite (subscription at $200/month), the positioning is clear: it aims to attract professionals, executives, senior managers, or highly solicited teams, for whom the time saved is well worth the investment.

But we can already anticipate an extension of the range:

  • Future integration with Slack, Notion, Google Drive?
  • Deployment of specialized agents (accounting, legal, HR)?
  • Enterprise version (Email Assistant “Team”?) with access rights, roles, governance?

The strategy seems clear: to become the central platform for personal and professional AI agents, and no longer limit itself to the intelligent search engine.

The launch of the Email Assistant confirms that Perplexity wants to play in the big leagues, beyond web search.

It's no longer just about accessing information faster, but about acting on professional workflows: emails, appointments, prioritization, responses, writing.

After revolutionizing search with a fast and relevant conversational interface, Perplexity is now tackling attention management, establishing itself as one of the most promising players in the generation of autonomous AI agents.
